Bristol Vegans
Bristol Vegans originally surfaced in this city way back in
1994 when Tim from Yaoh (although back then he was running the Hemp Shop in
Colston street in Bristol) called a meeting in McCreadies veggie cafe on
Christmas Steps. The meet was attended by himself, and Helen and Keith
from the then still functioning Bristol Vegetarian group, but that was
that. Bristol Vegans receded slowly into the gloom and fog of that
particularly Dickensian part of Bristol (Christmas Steps that is) only to
return with a vengance in April 2006 when Ellen and Paul combined to make
a local group once again. The first dinner we had as the current Bristol
Vegans was at Cafe Maitreya in Easton, where over 20 of us met to
basically eat, drink and make merry. the group continued to meet on a
regular basis every month or two, with memorable visits to Theos in
Southville (or somewheresouth of the river, anyway) , Cafe Kino (twice
now, mind), Krishna's Inn (venue for Wolrd Vegan Day Nov 1st two years
running), Ellen and Jools place (wicked, both times), Kate's gaff (scary
part of town, excellent day though - St Patricks Day, loads of green food -
don't ask) plus a couple of sessions down the King William boozer in town.
The group is friendly, well attended and completely not up itself and very
welcoming for new people to come and join, anyone who's intererested in
vegan veggie food , drink and great company will enjoy these meets no end.
The group has over 100 people subcribed to the monthly or so emails about
the next meet, andof course you can also keep up to date with alll the
latest news here at this website - see home page! Most times there's about
15 - 30 of us. New ideas/places to eat/gather etc always welcome Bristol
Vegans also recently excelled themselves by turning out in force to help
assist with the smooother than smooth running of the 2007 Bristol Vegan
Fayre, which was massive and saw over 9,000 people there over two days. The
whole team were superb, but Ellen, Kate and Rich deserve special thanks for
their wholehearetd and supreme efforts. Thanks to all the group for making
it such a bubble, contact ellen for more info
