Interview - One Planet
Take a little wander down Picton Street one day and you'll soon discover One Planet - situated on the old Radford Mill Farm Shop site, and now a wholefood shop, organic juice bar and cafe combined.
Owner Roger has a 10 year background in the wholefood trade, including a stint at Essential Trading and has now successfully combined the shop, juice bar and cafe into a modern- day community centre with more than a nod to the old skool.
Comfy deep sofas and a vibrant noticeboard compliment the latest veggie / vegan options available in the shop, whilst the courtyard provides extra seating outside for the juice bar and cafe (which is, naturally, veggie / vegan only). Juices are strictly organic (Bristol's first and only, I beleive) and there is a large selection of organic fruit and veg available too.
"This is a community-focused operation" says Roger Cole "and it was started without a penny, in fact I was on the dole at the time." Indeed, one of his stated aims is to bring decent organic food to the people of Montpelier at affordable prices, and this is reflected in the way the goods are available - plenty of sacks full of wholefoods and little in the way of fancy marketing, novelty products, glitzy packaging etc.
There has been a wholefood shop on this site for longer than anywhere else in Bristol now, and all of us who were sad to see the old shop shut down a year or two back can rest assured that One Planet has not only re-placed but has managed to better its previous occupants. A definate must for those who like to keep it real. Respect, One Planet.
One Planet is now no longer, its the Radford Mill Farm Shop again.
