Six Best Holiday Destinations
From A Vegan Guide To Bristol 2006
There are of course untold holiday destinations all over the world, but these few should all be of interest as you are guaranteed excellent vegan food, which is always difficult to locate whilst travelling.
Unlimited Health
Visitors to Amsterdam are heartily advised to check out Unlimited Health which is the City's only raw food restaurant. Opened in 2005 and serving delicious variations from raw produce only. Central location means that it is an easy visit wherever you may be staying in the city, and you won't be able to find a better quality of pure uncooked vegan food anywhere in town. Nothing like a fresh smoothie and salad after a nite on the dance floor to raise the blood sugar levels, and absolutely essential if your diet consists of niteclubs, bars and coffee shops. 00 31 20 6701705
Friendships
Stunning idea for a relaxed and decidedly different holiday option. Climb aboard a beautiful canal boat and travel some of the most amazing canals in the world - The UK's 200 year old canal and river system - with the added bonus of 100% fresh organic vegan catering provided by your resident personal chef. The boats are equipped with all mod cons, including DVDs and internet connection, as well as kites, bikes, digital cameras, games, books and computer games, as well as my personal fave, a scaletrix set. Proper nice set up. www.friendships.co.uk
Veggie Snow
Run by right nice people Steve and Sophie from Thames valley veggie group, fully booked for 2006 and taking bookings for 2007. Chalet is hired for a large party of veggie/vegans who then take to the pistes with relish. Naturally, all food is vegan. Sounds like a brilliant one and I is thinking of booking myself in for this one too as it happens. Don't let that put you off, in fact if you are interested do get in touch straight away as this particular little gem of a holiday tends to sell out early. www.veggiesnow.org
Vegetarian Guides
Short of ideas? Alex Bourke's Vegetarian Guides are the best thing in the world for the travelling veggie/vegan, as essential as the Lonely Planet guides. New for 2006 is Vegetarian Britain, now in its third edition and with over 1,250 places to eat, sleep and shop. Also particularly handy is Vegetarian Europe, which covers 23 countries, 40 cities and 300 places to eat - all catering for the veggie/vegan lifestyle. Vegetarian France focuses on France obviously, and there is even a vegan guide to New York. A quick look on the website reveals Vegetarian guides for Italy, Spain, Israel, USA and Canada too. www.vegetarianguides.co.uk
Making Waves
Beautiful location in St Ives Cornwall, a small and intimate guest house with a completely vegan menu, including raw food options and cuisine from Thailand, India, Italy and of course a traditional British Sunday roast, vegan of course. Lots of veggie/vegan options at nearby restaurants makes this a splendid choice for a long weekend or a longer stay, particularly now that you can book a self catering cottage that sleeps four. Prices are very reasonable and comfort and service is assured, whilst the owner's strong environmental commitment (organic paints, natural flooring etc) will appeal to many. www.making-waves.co.uk
Winter Sun Retreats - Ibiza
This is pretty much paradise for those amongst us who delight in excellent vegan food, superb sunshine and settings, the odd blissful massage, beautiful beaches and the best hosts in the world. All dishes are vegan and gluten free, with the most amazing creativity you can imagine. James and his lovely family are your hosts, alongside resident chefs, masseurs and other kindred spirits. Opening in November 2006 for the winter season bookings available now. I'm going, defo. www.wintersunretreats.com
