New Bristol Group’s first event is a great success!

The first event of the new group of vegans and vegetarians was a big success. There were more people than could fit in the room, so some people kindly volunteered to sit downstairs until after they had feasted on Café Maitreya’s gourmet cuisine. They then joined the rest upstairs for a truly social evening. Even more people had said they were unable to make the first event but would like to join the group next time.

The good food, conversation and beer flowed with lively energy until late and there were many ideas put forward about what activities the group might like to involve itself with in the future.

Suggestions ranged from bring and share suppers to picnics and trips out, library displays and even a reading/discussion group. Also, a veggie barbecue is on the cards for August, so watch this space.

A measure of how far the vegan ideal has come was illustrated when Tim from Yaoh told about how he’d tried to set up a group like this twenty years ago, and managed to get two people, one of which was him!

All in all, a wonderful start for a new group with people from many different backgrounds and walks of life who all have at least one thing in common – they’re vegan, vegetarian or aspiring towards a more cruelty-free, healthy lifestyle.
