Reduce Your Carbon Footprint at the Reading Eco Veggie Fayre

Organisers of the first ever Reading Eco Veggie Fayre at the Town Hall on Saturday 19th December have a clear message this xmas – It’s time to reduce our carbon footprint – and this show contains loads of information, products, advice and inspiration to help everyone achieve this.

‘We’re not stupid – we know its time to make changes. In fact the biggest Christmas present you can give your kids this year is to reduce your family carbon footprint. It’s got that serious….’ says event organiser Tim Barford from veggie lifestyle magazine Off The Hoof.

‘And the best way you can reduce your carbon footprint is to reduce your meat and dairy intake dramatically – as well as switch to an eco friendly lifestyle. Livestock farming is responsible for an untold proportion of global emissions and it’s time to reduce the animal products in our diet and replace with plant based products. There are literally thousands of excellent veggie options on the market today and many of them can be found at the Fayre – and often on special offer or free to sample!’

The event starts at 11am and runs until 6pm and includes two screenings of the award winning climate change film The Age Of Stupid’ starring Pete Postlethwaite. The film is introduced by climate change expert Tony Wardle, director of Europe’s biggest veggie pressure group Viva!, after which there is a debate – ‘Should Reading adopt a Meat Free Day?’, following high profile campaigns from (amongst others) Heather Mills, Sir Paul McCartney and Joanna Lumley to get UK Councils to adopt a ‘meat free day’ once a week in a bid to reduce global emissions.

There is also a series of cookery demos including an xmas dinner class from Viva’s Helen Rossiter, plus a unique a chance to ‘Meet the Experts’ in a variety of subjects including breast feeding on a veggie diet, the role of plant based essential fatty acids in your diet, and a sports nutritionist expert and kick boxing champion. Plus there’s a Kids area, stalls, shopping, special offers, freebies, tasters and loads of veggie food including a café with two excellent veggie caterers and even a raw food banquet! And of course a licensed bar and music and entertainment, ensuring that there is something for everyone at this family friendly show.

Admission is only £3 for adults, and £1 for Kids and OAP’s. There are 200 free goody bags (worth over £10!) on entry to the first arrivals! Happy Xmas Reading, lets reduce our Carbon Footprint in style!!!
